Here we are audience, with another wonder of baking. Hopefully soon you will know how to make all of your favourite cookies If you come to think of it, it is interesting how a huge variety of things can be created just by mixing flour, sugar and eggs together. It is a treat both for the eyes and the stomach.

So in this article, we discuss a new creation from the same old mixture – the shortbread cookies.  They belong to the shortbread family.  They just melt in your mouth and taste great. Plus the aroma of butter in it makes it all the more irresistible.

The recipe is very simple and has received good star ratings by those who have tried it. Their softness is well appreciated by the kids and equally liked by the adults. Once the cookies are made, you can decorate them with any sort of topping that you would like, be it chocolate, lemon icing or strawberry icing.

Apart from the usual kitchen equipment, this recipe requires extra catering equipment – the cookie cutter or cookie press. Though the equipment is not at all necessary, it just gives the baking a professional touch and makes the cookies fun to make.  If you are interested in buying the stuff, look for companies that do commercial catering for kitchen supplies and also make products for baking at home. The alternative to this is that you roll out the dough into long bars, any length you want to, and then cut it in to pieces, or just spoon out the mixture on to the baking tray, it’s up to you.

Before you start mixing all the ingredients following the recipe’s steps, it is highly recommended that you go through the recipe once, make sure you have all the ingredients and then place them right in front of you before the baking session. Some people just like to plunge in to recipes but at times this ends up in a hassle as they are unable to find one or more of the required ingredients at home. This wastes time and kills all the baking fun.

The following recipe yields more than 20 two inch sized cookies. To experiment with the it, cut down on the quantities, make it half or one-third, to give it a try. You can later make the whole recipe for a bake sale!

To begin, check that you have

  • 2 cups of Butter , softened by heating in microwave or on stove in a double boiler or a pan,
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 4 cups of all purpose flour

If you do, you should not be losing more time.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (or 350 degrees Fahrenheit)
  2.  To a large bowl, add the butter and sugar and cream the mixture until it becomes fluffy.
  3. Put in the vanilla essence and flour and mix well.
  4. Make it in to cookies using a cookie press or form cookies on to baking sheet as directed above.
  5. Bake for ten to twelve minutes or minutes or until the dough has firmed up.
